It's great to get Christmas cards and greetings, but once you have them all, what do you do with them? I usually display mine. I don't have a Christmas card holder, so I tape my cards to my closet door or along the kitchen wall with the tape over the inside of the card and against the wall, so that the cards are displayed with fronts facing outwards, and can still be opened to be read. If I had a mantel, I would definitely use it as a long Christmas card holder and line up my Christmas cards along it. But since I don't have a mantel (for that matter I don't have a fireplace, either!) that could double as a Christmas card holder, I make do with turning my walls and closet door into a makeshift Christmas card holder by taping my Christmas cards to them.
Come to think of it, where can you buy a Christmas card holder at? A Christmas card holder is one thing I haven't come across during my annual Christmas decoration shopping. Of course, that could just be because I'm not exactly looking for a Christmas card holder, and I pass it over.
That said, I recently heard from a friend about a unique idea she had for making her own Christmas card holder for all of her Christmas cards. She used a juice can, some yarn, and of course, a Christmas card to put in the finished Christmas card holder. Her instructions on creating this unique Christmas card holder are as follows:
Cut off each end of your juice can - aka your soon to be Christmas card holder. Do this using a can opener, but be careful - the edges of the can will be sharp!
Take the beginning of your yarn and pull it through one end of your soon to be Christmas card holder and out the other until you make a complete circle. Tie a knot in the yarn in the inside of your soon to be Christmas card holder. Now, continue doing this until the entire soon to be Christmas card holder is covered. Obviously, you will need a lot of yarn to cover your soon to be Christmas card holder - an entire skein, to be exact!
Once you have entirely covered your Christmas card holder with yarn, tie off the end. Now your Christmas card holder is ready - simply slip corners through the pieces of yarn all over the can, and your Christmas card holder and its cards are ready to be displayed!
